New Girl
Monica looked around her, seeing her new school and
missing her old one. She wants to bang her locker and shout at the top of her
voice the most virulent words she could think of, in any language that she
know, and get expelled so as to go back to her old beloved school. But that’s
not how she acts so she just got her books quietly and shut the locker without
the slightest noise.
‘How will I be able to walk with the whole world on
my hands?’ she asked herself as she looked at the three very thick books the
librarian gave her, then she shrugged, ‘Oh, well... might as well get it over
with!’ Monica pivoted around then...
WHAM!
She saw her surrounding spin. “Oh no!” She groaned.
Inwardly, she was telling herself not to faint at the first day of school- and
in a new one at that!
But it was too late. She felt her body fall... then
a slight tug.
Monica felt a hand on her wrist pulling her. She
tried to open her eyes but the world is still spinning!
“Don’t open your eyes yet!” somebody said...a boy?...or
is it a girl? Somebody was putting weight on her shoulders, pushing her down,
with panic, Monica struggled.
“Be still and sit down!” The voice said again... a
boy.
‘Pugnacious little brat.’ Monica thought, but she
sat down and felt lockers behind her. After that, somebody was pushing her head
down between her knees. Too dizzy to struggle, she let him control her.
A few seconds later ... or was it minutes? Monica
felt her stomach and head settle down and she slowly looked up, her right hand
going to the side of her head.
“Are you okay?”, asked the voice again, she looked
around her, confused, her vision still blurred, then it focused and she saw a
guy...a very formidable guy...
‘I must be dreaming!’ thought Monica as her other
hand went to the other side of her head to massage it. When she looked up
again, she saw him again. She cocked her head to one side and frowned as she
asked, “Who are you?”
The guy grinned. “Yup! She’s okay, people. Now go on
your own way!” He said. For the first time she saw the crowd gathered around
her and she sunk inwardly, lower to the floor and blushed outwardly.
The guy stood up and offered her his hand. Monica,
glad for the help, took it. But when she stood up, she still felt dizzy that
she leaned on the lockers. When she opened her eyes, the guy is looking at her
with so much concern on his face that she smiled, “I’m okay, just dizzy.”
Monica saw the guy get her books. Thanking him, she held out her hands for her
books. But the guy shook his head and said-
“No way! I’m going to take you to your room. It was
my locker that hit you on the head.”
Monica smiled inwardly but frowned outwardly. Need
she be reminded of that? “You are a the most belligerent person I’ve ever met,
except for my brother!”
The guy gave her a confused look. “Bellige- what?!”
Monica laughed at guy. Soon, after she gave him her
room no., they were walking to her class. Brent, his name is Brent, was giving
her an introduction about the school. And using big words, even in wrong
sentences, because of belligerent.
“So, so far, that’s it.” Said Brent with a wave of
his hand when he finished.
“Who’s the principal?” Monica asked.
Brent gave her a secretive and wicked smile that she
instantly liked. “That must be the infamous Dr. Dirk Lavendhorst. Very, very
ruthless with students.”
His tone belying what his face shows and she
laughed. Then, she was in front of her room. “Well, bye. Thanks for helping
me.” Monica said as she smiled shyly.
Brent gave her a painful look. “What? Nothing about
my intro?” he asked sadly and Monica laughed again. “That too!”
“See ya ‘round!” Brent said with a wave, then he
started walking away. He suddenly stopped and looked back, “And sorry, again!”
Monica waved him off, “Go! You’ll be late!”
Brent waved back again. And he was gone. Seconds
later, after Brent left, she was surrounded by a mob of girls saying,
demanding,
“Do you know who that was!” and “I can’t believe HE
walked you to class” and “Are you his girlfriend?” Later, after the girls were settled,
Monica learned about Brent’s notorious reputation, especially with girls and
his enemies. ‘He is also my enemy...’, Monica said as her hand went to her
chest, “and very dangerous....”. Promising to herself that she’ll never, ever
go near him again, as much as possible, she went to work.
